What you need
- A JamBots account. The Free plan is enough to follow this guide.
- A model key, unless your plan includes model usage.
Tips for good standing instructions
A bot does its best work when its description reads like a short brief to a new teammate.
- Say what the bot is for. “Watch our status page and summarize incidents every morning” beats “be helpful.”
- Say what to ask about. Approval rules cover risky actions, but you can also tell the bot to check with you before it starts anything that takes longer than an hour.
- Change it by chatting. Ask the bot to update its own name, description, routines or model. It changes the setting and confirms in the thread.
What happens next
The bot remembers preferences and facts as it learns them. You can read and edit that memory at any time. When the bot needs something only you can give, such as a decision, a sign-in or an approval, it posts in the thread and sends a notification to your devices.
